In the morning hours of 4 December, an explosion involving a substance not yet identified occurred in the garage of a single-family building on Osiedle Kwiatowe in Bolesławiec.
As a result of the incident, 36-year-old Bolesławiec resident Andrzej Janusz, vocalist of the band Sumptuastic, suffered injuries. He was given medical assistance. At the scene, under the supervision of a prosecutor and with the participation of specialised services, an inspection of the basement rooms and the entire building was carried out. It was then—as the istotne.pl portal learned unofficially—that a police officer suffered a hand injury in another explosion.
Vocalist Andrzej Janusz explains that he wanted to show his godson how to fire a shot using saltpetre. He decided to prepare the mixture himself. The substance exploded in his hands. His hands, chest and eyes were injured.
Andrzej Janusz denies that he was preparing any attack. He says this because symbols of the National Radical Camp were found in his basement. Bandmates say that the musician mentioned his interest in the ONR, but it was more of a curiosity and he was not seriously involved in the movement.
“Activities are currently under way to secure all traces and evidence and to clarify the circumstances, including assessing whether a crime was committed,” says prosecutor Violetta Niziołek, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.
On 5 December, the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the manufacture, without the required permit, of an explosive substance capable of posing a danger to human life and health or property on a large scale.
The offence is punishable by imprisonment from 6 months to 8 years.
