Officers from the Economic Crime Division of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin arrested a Lubin resident suspected of selling tobacco products without Polish excise stamps. It was estimated that the man deprived the State Treasury of nearly PLN 50,000 in revenue.
The man ran a shop selling various goods in the Ścinawa municipality. However, this was only a cover. In reality, the Lubin resident sold illegal cigarettes and tobacco there, making it a steady source of income. Police findings show that the suspect put more than 80 kg of tobacco and over 13,000 cigarettes into circulation. (The man made the officers’ work easier by meticulously recording how much merchandise he sold.)
The 24-year-old now faces a fine of nearly PLN 25,000 and up to three years in prison.
