The Polish Red Cross shelter for homeless people, located in the “Przystań” Associations House at 32D al. Tysiąclecia in Bolesławiec, is nearly full. Most of its residents are from Bolesławiec, but there are also five people from our county. – If it happened that we had no places left and a resident came in the afternoon, we would take them in and put them on a mattress, and the next day try to arrange a place at a facility – explains Danuta Zielińska, head of the PCK district branch in Bolesławiec. – We generally do not turn anyone away.
People are referred to the shelter by social welfare centres, which pay for their residents. But a homeless person may also come on their own. (In that case, they pay 80% of their income. Unless they have no income, in which case they pay nothing).
Among the residents of the Bolesławiec shelter are people who have been staying here for years. They have no reason to complain about the standard: three meals a day, sanitary facilities, hot water and a washing machine. – Our social conditions are very good thanks to the City of Bolesławiec – adds Danuta Zielińska. (The building at 32D al. Tysiąclecia underwent a major renovation, which made it possible to accommodate communities that had been struggling with housing problems for years.)
