Officers from Police Station II in Jelenia Góra detained five minors aged between 14 and 17. Four of them counterfeited a 100-zloty banknote using a multifunction device, while the oldest—17-year-old—put it into circulation. In one of the grocery stores in Jelenia Góra, the boy wanted to use the counterfeit banknote to pay for sweets. Both the appearance of the banknote and the customer's behavior aroused the cashier's suspicion. She notified her supervisors, who in turn informed the police.
The officers detained the 17-year-old and his four friends, and secured the counterfeit banknote and the aforementioned multifunction device. It was established that the minors had most likely counterfeited three such banknotes.
The oldest of the teenagers was placed in police custody. He faces a sentence of at least 5 years in prison. The family court will decide the fate of the other counterfeiters.
