Plastic containers and polyethylene tanks are present in nearly every area of life: from households to industry.
For allotment gardeners and private homeowners, water tanks are useful for setting up a summer shower and storing water or other liquids. In industry, on the other hand, tanks are used to store diesel fuel and corrosive liquids, or simply to transport water.
How it all begins: the production process
The advantages of these tanks are achieved thanks to the selected production method, namely rotational molding (rotomoulding). This manufacturing technology makes it possible to create products of any size and shape: barrels, horizontal and vertical tanks, rectangular tanks, and so on. They may also be above-ground or underground.
Once the molding process is complete, it can be seen that the product has no seams and that its structure is uniform and homogeneous across its entire surface. These features increase the tank’s strength and reliability.
Advantages of a plastic water tank.
High performance characteristics, reliability, ease of use and a simple design – all of this distinguishes plastic containers from their counterparts made of other materials. Plastic barrels are suitable for storing water and food products and make it possible to keep their contents in usable condition for a long time.
There are several types of plastic used to manufacture tanks.
- Polypropylene is not an inexpensive raw material and is better suited to producing biological wastewater treatment plants, as it withstands earth pressure significantly better. On the other hand, it is more expensive and more brittle than polyethylene.
- Fiberglass is one of the strongest and, at the same time, one of the most expensive raw materials available today, and it is used to manufacture tanks with a capacity of 20 m³ or more.
- Polyethylene is the most affordable raw material, offers high strength and chemical resistance, is not affected by mechanical forces, and is long-lasting in use – polyethylene containers will serve for more than 30 years regardless of temperature changes.
Products made from virgin polyethylene have no odor and do not absorb odors. These tanks are usually used to store and transport foodstuffs, whether liquids or bulk products. The high chemical resistance of such tanks makes them suitable for storing diesel fuel or chemical substances.
