This year, students from the computer science and IT classes of Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych im. Ignacego Domeyki in Bolesławiec also took part in the project. As part of CodeWeek Day, held on 19 October, the students participated in online workshops and lectures on the basics and general concepts of programming and algorithms, as well as databases. In addition, during computer science and vocational-subject lessons, the workshop participants had the opportunity to design their own computer game in the Scratch environment. This form of celebrating CodeWeek attracted particular interest from the students—not only those studying computer science and IT—and the game projects they created were of a high standard.

Why programming? Programming skills are extremely important for the future of the labor market. According to the Grand Coallition for Digital Jobs, the workforce in the information and communications technology sector numbered 6.67 million people in Europe in 2011, representing only 3.1% of those employed in Europe. It is estimated that, due to the dynamic development of IT services on the European market, there will be a shortage of approximately 900,000 specialists in this field by 2020.
