On Tuesday (25 October), on provincial road 352 (from Bogatynia to Zgorzelec), a speeding passenger car collided head-on with a truck. The tragedy occurred in Działoszyn (Bogatynia Municipality). For unknown reasons, the passenger-car driver moved into the opposite lane, directly into the path of the truck, reports RMF FM
The 44-year-old driver of the passenger car and his three children, aged 6, 11 and 13, died at the scene. The truck driver did not suffer serious injuries. He was in shock after the incident. On the same day, the body of the passenger-car driver's wife was also found in an apartment in Zgorzelec. Police officers found the woman's body when they came to inform her about the tragedy in which her husband and children had died. The apartment door was locked. A decision was made to force it open. After entering the apartment, they found the woman's body. The woman had head injuries.
Investigators are establishing the causes of the family tragedy. Various possibilities are being considered, from an unfortunate accident and suicide to so-called extended suicide. An autopsy of the woman is to be carried out today; it will determine whether she died before or after the accident. The investigators' findings so far indicate that the passenger-car driver did not brake immediately before colliding with the truck.
Update 3:20 p.m.
It has so far been established that the woman died as a result of four blows to the head inflicted with a blunt instrument. It is not yet known who murdered the 44-year-old woman. It has been established, however, that at the time of the accident the passenger car may have been traveling at 150 km/h. The driver did not brake, and the children were not wearing seat belts. Investigators will determine whether their bodies had any injuries other than those caused by the accident. Autopsies of the children's bodies will be carried out in the coming days – more information is available on the RMF FM website.
