CZERNA is a small village in the Nowogrodziec commune (formerly Bolesławiec County). Although it lies about 18 kilometres from the town on the Bóbr River, we should be interested in what young people from upper-secondary schools are doing there, because more than 90% of the primary-school graduates in Czerna attend schools in Bolesławiec. They, too, are enthusiasts of Bolesławiec.
Recently, construction of a COMMUNITY CULTURAL CENTRE was completed in CZERNA. There would be nothing extraordinary about this if not for a certain problem. The people had to decide by vote whether the building would be taken over by the commune mayor, a private owner, or remain the property of all the village residents. The voters decided that the “Cultural Centre” would be ours! In my opinion, the issue of local youth was the most important matter in this vote. It was the young people who proposed a programme of activities they had prepared themselves, elected their representatives, and convinced everyone that their view on the work of this cultural centre was justified—with their own needs and ambitions in mind, as well as the rational organisation of their free time.
We will see whether we can take advantage of the opportunity that life gives us, one that our teachers and parents have created for us. Will we pass this exam successfully?
I know that all this looks so wonderful and encouraging... In two or three months, I will try to report on what youth activities in Czerna look like.
