Mr. FRANCISZEK KASKÓW (residing at 1a Parkowa Street (33)), sent us three more pieces of correspondence with an attached file on topics related to commemorating the anniversaries of important historical events. Due to limited space, we are unable to present the Author’s views in full, although many accurate reflections and suggestions deserve attention and full acceptance. Some parts of the letters have since become outdated (for example, the 50th anniversary of the return of the Bolesławiec Land to the Motherland was solemnly celebrated despite the controversy surrounding the matter), so, apologizing to the author for the delay and abridgements, we will quote only small fragments of this extensive and interesting correspondence. We reprint in full the thoughts and truths of a patriot—a Polish historian from the beginning of this century. This text requires no commentary.
“There are still people living in Bolesławiec who came to these lands in the 1940s, and they should be asked about the true history of Bolesławiec and those times. One example is Mr. JÓZEF ERBAN, aged 95, my neighbor, who is related to General HALLER himself. He took part in the Polish–Bolshevik War in 1920. He met Marshal J. Piłsudski personally during that war. He took part in the 1939 defensive war, and later fought the Germans in 1944–45. He arrived in Bolesławiec on May 2, 1945, as Deputy Commander of the RKU and distinguished himself by helping to eliminate the German underground in these lands. The other is Mr. Włodzimierz KOWALSKI, a soldier who arrived in Bolesławiec with a Polish Army unit in 1945. He lived here for 50 years, and now, holding the rank of reserve colonel, chairs the Association of Combatants. But who is interested in such people today? Perhaps, when they are no longer here, someone will remember them and write about them,” writes Mr. F. KASKÓW bitterly.
FROM THE EDITORS. We propose that the Local Television Municipal Editorial Office record another historical program and broadcast it on the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. The quoted reserve colonel WŁODZIMIERZ KOWALSKI and the President of TMB, our editorial colleague and historian, MA graduate ZYGMUNT BRUSIŁO, have already declared their willingness to participate. Mr. JÓZEF ERBAN will surely not refuse to take part either.
