Bolesławiec was a town where one of the oldest physiotherapy facilities was built. The demand for treatment of rheumatic diseases, which were and still are common in this area, led the town council to decide to build a bathing and spa facility.
In 1857, building councillor Ryszard Schiller designed and began construction of the facility. It was to contain an indoor swimming pool and a number of rooms for treatment purposes (baths, mud treatments, brine baths, etc.). Part of the building was incorporated into an old defensive wall tower.
