For the second time, a group of nearly one hundred former soldiers of the 62nd Special Company and veterans—Polish commandos from the Polish Armed Forces in the West—took part in a comrades’ reunion. It began with an assembly in front of the monument commemorating the heroes: soldiers of the 1st Independent Commando Company and the 2nd Motorized Commando Battalion who fell on the Italian front. The honor guard was provided by Monika PAWLACZEK, Sylwia PAWLAK, Krzysztof MUSIAŁ and Przemysław KUSEK from the “Trawers” Scout Aviation Circle in Złotoryja. A wreath was laid and tribute was paid with a minute of silence. In the second part of the meeting, participants competed in shooting with a P-83 wax pistol. Marek STACHOWSKI won, ahead of Rajmund PRUS and Krzysztof KULICZKOWSKI.
The meeting continued at a richly set table until late at night. On behalf of the Circle’s Board, the circle’s president, reserve major Andrzej ZDAN, invited everyone to another meeting in the same company in September next year.
For the sake of the historical record, let us add that Bolesławiec’s 62nd Special Company was disbanded on August 31 of last year. The monument visible in the photograph, strikingly similar to the one recently unveiled in our town in front of the railway station, is located in front of the barracks building where the soldiers of the 62nd Special Company were quartered; it was erected in September 1993.
