Our readers will surely remember that the City Board decided to accept one of the families from the Polish community in Kazakhstan and enable them to live and work in our city. Recently, a letter from a student from Lublin, Ms NATALIA SZYMAŃSKA, was submitted to the Mayor, in which she applied on behalf of her parents for the right to settle permanently in Poland. Everything indicates that this is the family that will come to Bolesławiec.
We quote extensive excerpts from the correspondence:
"My family consists of my mother, LUDMIŁA SZYMAŃSKA, born in Kazakhstan (née Olszewska). She is a doctor. My father, WIKTOR SZYMAŃSKI, is a mechanic; my sister OLESIA is 13 and attends school (there she learns the Polish language), while I – NATALIA – am currently studying Polish in a preparatory year in Lublin (primary education teaching programme). My maternal grandmother and grandfather, as well as my paternal grandfather, were deported to Kazakhstan with their families. We feel Polish, and only bad luck caused us to find ourselves far from our homeland.
My entire family intends, sooner or later and at any cost, to settle in Poland, because it is our homeland. I am writing on behalf of my parents because I am in Poland, while my parents will send the application at a later date (because of the distance)."
The emigration procedure is certainly not easy, but our correspondent has encountered an exceptionally favourable atmosphere in Bolesławiec and can count on help immediately. We will write about the Polish family’s Kazakh odyssey in the near future.
