In January this year, PSM students demonstrated their skills by taking part in city events and concerts organized by the school. On January 4, during a ceremony closing the term of office of lay judges at the District Court, a flute ensemble, a clarinet duo and soloist Wojciech Piwowarski performed. The next concert in which PSM students performed was the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. On the second Sunday of January, Bolesławiec residents had the opportunity to hear instrumental ensembles and solo performances held at the Old Theatre and in the lobby of the “FORUM” cinema. The soloists included: Wojciech Piwowarski (accordion), Krzysztof Russ (violin), Magdalena Różnicka (flute), Marcin Stopyra, Roman Stanek (guitar), Magdalena Jop, Marta Ośko, Kajetan Świtalski and Justyna Kokoszko (piano). The following duos performed in the “FORUM” lobby: an accordion duo (Jacek Berczuk, Waldemar Pyrkosz), a clarinet duo (Grzegorz Chojnacki, Daniel Kędzierski) and a guitar-and-flute duo (Ewa Stolarczyk, Klaudia Wojtkiewicz). Also performing were the highly popular ensembles: a flute quartet (Magdalena Anuszkiewicz, Magdalena Różnicka, Dorota Wierzchowska, Aleksandra Zakrzewska), a string quartet (Julia Ciechowicz, Paweł Uznański, Katarzyna Kusojć, Marta Ośko) and a wind-instrument sextet (Tomasz Dudziak, Paweł Kindzierski, Włodzimierz Pałka, Wojciech Piwowarski, Jacek Zmaczyński, Sebastian Stachów). On January 15, a carol concert took place at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In addition to the best-known carols, the program included pastorales and works with winter and Christmas themes. The performers were: an accordion quintet (Anna Śmigielska, Mariusz Tkacz, Wojciech Piwowarski, Marta Pawula, Magdalena Anuszkiewicz), a clarinet trio (Ewa Zwrotniak, Grzegorz Chojnacki, Daniel Kędzierski) and a wind-instrument ensemble: the sextet mentioned above and a newly formed quartet consisting of Paweł Greszczyszyn, Łukasz Greszczyszyn, Krzysztof Russ and Jacek Drohomirecki. The vocal ensemble (Joanna Maciaszek, Izabella Osuch, Agata Pińczuk, Ewa Stolarczyk) was particularly warmly received. Guest performers included a male vocal quartet (Jerzy Jagiera, Mikołaj Lekawski, Jan Szymański, Jerzy Umiński), which performed “Tryumfy” together with the school orchestra; Tomasz Kupnicki played the carol “Gdy się Chrystus rodzi” in a keyboard arrangement; and Kamil Kucharczak performed “Przybieżeli do Betlejem” on the clarinet. The concert concluded with a performance by the school orchestra conducted by Józef Dolecki and Leszek Żyzny. The church’s festive decorations, excellent acoustics and, above all, the concert’s subject matter, appealing not only to music lovers, created a warm and unique atmosphere. We sincerely thank Rev. Prelate W. Rączka for making it possible to organize the concert, as well as for the refreshments served to the performers. New Year’s Concerts organized by the Music School have already become a tradition. This year’s concert took place on January 26 at the Old Theatre. The largest group of soloists consisted of pianists: Angela Halewicz, Karolina Faryś, Ramona Słobodzien, Katarzyna Wąsik and Elżbieta Mielec. Julia Ciechowicz represented the violin class; accompanied by Nina Narbut, she performed Fiebich’s “Poem”. A clarinet trio (led by Leopold Droszczak), a flute quartet (teacher: Marian Kostecki) and a wind-instrument ensemble (led by Ryszard Kurzydło) also performed. A mandolin ensemble led by Zofia Michalska and a guitar ensemble led by Krzysztof Kucharczyk performed for the first time. J. F. Telemann’s Concerto in A minor was performed by Magdalena Różnicka together with her teacher Marian Kostecki, accompanied by Dorota Popek and Krzysztof Kucharczak. Vocal performances were also included: Agata Pińczuk sang the song from Edyta Górniak’s repertoire, “To nie ja byłam Ewą”, while Aleksandra Zakrzewska performed J. Stokłosa’s composition from the musical “Metro”. The school orchestra, conducted by Józef Dolecki, concluded the New Year’s Concert with “Chrystmens” and “Intermezzo”. The final concert in January, summarizing the first semester of the school year, featured performances by first-year students from the piano and accordion sections.
