As is traditional, on 1 January an inaugural football match was held between BKS I and BKS II, with a glass of New Year’s champagne at stake. The players turned out in force, and two teams, each with an extra-large squad of 12 footballers, faced each other on the pitch at Rajska Street. BKS I’s team was made up primarily of senior players, reinforced by the “Germans” – Zbigniew Szewczyk and Sławomir Stulin, who played in the German league on a daily basis. BKS II’s team was based on junior players, with only the goal occupied by the experienced “Dżinks” – the nickname of Stanisław Matwiejczyk, a long-serving goalkeeper who was still an active player despite having already passed the age of 40. It was an interesting match, full of numerous goal-scoring opportunities and goals, and it ended with a 5:2 victory for BKS I. The most beautiful goal was scored by RAFAŁ STASIAK, who struck from 16 metres straight into the “top corner” of the goal defended by “Dżinks”. The match was watched by members of the BKS Board, led by President engineer Edward Kaput, and by the new head of the football section, Marian Szewerda, as well as the most loyal supporters. Everyone was pleased with the players’ performance on the pitch, and I wish them just as many emotions and goals – and, above all, victories – throughout the coming football season.
