The VOIVODESHIP HOSPITAL FOR THE NERVOUSLY AND MENTALLY ILL in BOLESŁAWIEC (30 Aleja Tysiąclecia, tel. 32-01) is in a dramatic situation. It lacks everything, or almost everything – as Dr BOGUSŁAW ZASĘPA, a psychiatrist and head of the ward, writes in a letter to the editorial office. The appeal mainly concerns used equipment and furniture that are still in good condition.
The doctor lists chairs, tables, wardrobes, cabinets, beds, divans, garden chairs, desks and other office furniture, a telephone, a bread slicer and other household equipment, cleaning supplies, wood, paints, plaster and other renovation and repair materials, electrical cables, and televisions. Effective therapy and diagnostics require, among other things, a VCR, computer, video camera, microphone and other audiovisual or audio equipment, as well as paper, brushes, paints, crayons, and so on.
The doctor also appeals for money, if anyone can afford to help. Skilled workers for renovation work in the ward are worth their weight in gold: plumbers, electricians and others – including do-it-yourself enthusiasts.
This dramatic appeal from the doctor surprised us and deeply moved us. We appeal to the community, which is known for its genuine sensitivity to the plight of sick, weak, infirm, elderly and helpless people, for assistance in this matter. We will record in the pages of “Głos” every expression of compassion and every sign of goodwill. We will return to this subject in regular, recurring reports.
