On 4 November 1994, in Jelenia Góra–Cieplice, in the park near the headquarters of the Board of the Lower Silesian District Branch of the Polish Red Cross, the inaugural VOIVODESHIP COMPETITION IN PROVIDING PRE-MEDICAL FIRST AID for upper-secondary schools was held. The following results were achieved in the overall classification of RESCUE TEAMS:
FIRST PLACE – Zespół Szkół Rzemiosł Artystycznych Jelenia Góra 1,185 points.
SECOND PLACE – Zespół Szkół Zawodowych Nr 3 Jelenia Góra 1,126 points.
THIRD PLACE – Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących Nr 1 Bolesławiec 1,078 points.
FOURTH PLACE – Zespół Szkół Zawodowych Bolesławiec 1,059 points.
FIFTH PLACE – Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych Bolesławiec 1,036 points.
The teams demonstrated practical skills in providing pre-medical first aid in (a number of areas):
-cardiopulmonary resuscitation by a single rescuer,
-providing assistance to a person with a hand burn,
-providing assistance to a person with severe bleeding,
-providing assistance to a fainted person,
-providing assistance to a person with an upper-limb injury,
-providing assistance to a person with an abrasion and an ankle sprain,
-providing assistance to a person with suspected concussion,
-providing assistance to a person with a suspected spinal injury,
-providing assistance to a person with an open lower-leg fracture,
-providing assistance to a person with amputated fingers,
-providing assistance to a person in shock.
The participants and supervisors from Bolesławiec deserve great applause. I would like to thank Ms Danuta Zielińska, Head of the LOCAL PCK FACILITY in Bolesławiec, and qualified nurse Ms Teresa Serwejuk at Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych in Bolesławiec for their assistance in securing equipment and supplying the teams with materials and resources for providing first aid.
