The “Lepszy Świat” Association, as part of the Solidarity with Tibet campaign, collected signatures for a petition to the Polish government, including in Poznań, Kraków and at this year’s Przystanek Woodstock. “We hope that people will join this campaign and sign the petition. We are doing this for a just cause. We need to help countries where people have no rights,” Marta Chadaj, a volunteer with the organization, tells the IstotneInformacje.pl portal.Marta Chadaj, a volunteer with the organization.

“People are being murdered in Tibet. Basic human rights are violated every day. We want to show that we do not accept this,” emphasizes Ewelina Pankowska, coordinator of the Bolesławiec campaign. “By signing the petition, we want to oblige our government to recognize this issue and provide assistance to Chinese dissidents and opposition activists in Tibet,” she adds.

In addition, the association’s volunteers distributed leaflets concerning human rights violations in China and orange ribbons expressing solidarity with Tibet. Asked how many signatures needed to be collected for the campaign to achieve its desired effect, Ewelina Pankowska replied that every signature is important.

A demonstration of solidarity with Tibet will take place in Warsaw on August 8.
