On 6 October of this year, the Second Knowledge Tournament about Bolesławiec Municipality was held in the hall of the Municipal Cultural and Sports Centre in Kruszyn. The aim of the tournament was to spread knowledge about our municipality among children and young people; to familiarise them with the geographical location of the localities in our municipality and raise awareness of economic and socio-cultural issues.
The tournament was attended by three-person teams representing primary schools: Primary School No. 5 in Bolesławiec, Primary School in Bożejowice, Primary School in Dąbrowa, Primary School in Kraśnik Dolny, Primary School in Kraśnik Górny, Primary School in Kruszyn, Primary School in Ociec and Primary School in Żeliszów.
The first stage of the competition was the elimination round, during which the young participants drew seven questions in succession. The questions varied in difficulty; some were luckier and drew easy questions, while others paled somewhat after opening and reading the question.
Of the nine municipal schools, four qualified for the final. The final took a different form from the eliminations. The participants answered the same questions in writing. Then came the decisive final round, with three very difficult questions.
The Competition Committee deliberated diligently: Władysław Majkowski, Chair of the Municipal Council; Franciszek Popek, Municipal Treasurer; and Andrzej Dutkowski, Municipal Secretary. Among the invited guests in the hall was the Municipal Head, Kazimierz Gawron.
The winners were selected after the final.
First place went to the delegation from Primary School in Dąbrowa: Iwona Krawczyk, Łukasz Marszalek and Katarzyna Bożek. The school received a Chronicle of the 20th Century, while the participants received attractive prizes.
Second place went to the pupils of the Primary School in Kruszyn (last year’s winners).
Third place was taken by the delegation from Primary School No. 5 in Bolesławiec.
Fourth place and an award went to the pupils of the Primary School in Kraśnik Górny.
While preparing for the competition and absorbing information about Bolesławiec Municipality, the participants surely committed some facts to memory. Therefore, I believe that organising such a competition is worthwhile.
