On August 1, before noon, the Moon partially covered the Sun’s disk. The phenomenon was visible throughout the country. A solar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth align in a straight line.

At 11:00, young residents of our town were watching the sky. “They talked about the eclipse on the radio in the morning, but I had found out about it earlier from my dad,” Dominika Stefańczyk told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal. Asked what impression the unusual phenomenon had made on her, the Bolesławiec resident replied: “I have never seen anything like it before.”

The next partial eclipse will be visible in Poland on January 15, 2010. On January 4, 2011, the Moon will cover as much as 80% of the Sun. The next total solar eclipse in Poland, however, will not occur until October 7, 2135.
