On Corpus Christi, 2 June 1994, at 6:00 p.m., a chapel for celebrating Mass was consecrated in the Kwiatowe Housing Estate in Bolesławiec on a very hot day. Approximately 500 people, including more than 20 priests, took part in the ceremony. The importance of the ceremony was underscored by the presence of a military band. The municipal authorities were represented by the mayor, Józef Król, MSc Eng. The chapel was consecrated by the bishop and Ordinary of Legnica, Tadeusz Rybak, PhD, assisted by Monsignor Władysław Bochnak, PhD. During his homily, the bishop emphasized the importance of the chapel and the parish being established for the spiritual welfare of Bolesławiec’s residents. It is also worth noting that on that day, parish priest Władysław Karwacki was granted the dignity of canon RM.
These significant events encourage us to recall the most important facts concerning the establishment of the chapel and the new parish in Bolesławiec. In the spring of 1994, a one-hectare plot was purchased for parish buildings. It was subsequently entered in the land and mortgage register with a note stating that it was owned by the Church. Thanks to the goodwill of the Legnica voivode and Bishop Rybak’s intervention, some of the materials for constructing the provisional chapel were obtained from military barracks in Trzebień that had been abandoned by the Russians. The chapel’s design was prepared by engineers Piotr Żurowski and Antoni Skobliński. After Easter, having first gathered the necessary funds and other essential materials, construction began, and a fine chapel was erected within four weeks. All those who showed goodwill toward this undertaking deserve our immense and heartfelt gratitude. It should also be noted that more than PLN 150 million had been spent on the construction of this House of Prayer at that point.
The decree of the Bishop of Legnica establishing, at the aforementioned chapel, the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Bolesławiec is dated 24 June 1994. The new parish was formed from parts of the parish of Our Lady of the Rosary in Bolesławiec, including the following streets: Bławatków, Cisowa, Czerwonych Maków, Irysów, Jarzębinowa, Jaśminowa, Jemiołowa, Jesionowa, Jodłowa, Kalinowa, Modrzewiowa, Sadowa, Stokrotek, Storczyków, Szarotek, Świerkowa and Tulipanowa. The locality of Dobra was also incorporated into the parish. Then, on 29 June of that year, Father Józef Hupa became the first administrator of the newly established parish.
The community of the Sacred Heart of Jesus faces enormous tasks. These include the construction of a new church, church and parish buildings, as well as the provision of new items needed for divine service. Although the parishioners have numerous personal problems of their own, it is nevertheless believed that this undertaking will be completed with distinction.
