On May 25 this year, a reading competition entitled “Do You Know Kornel Makuszyński’s Books” was held in the reading-events room of the Municipal Public Library in Bolesławiec. It was organized to mark the 110th anniversary of the writer’s birth.
Thirty-six students from nine primary schools in Bolesławiec took part in the competition.
The competition was won by the team from Primary School No. 9, which took first place. The team from Primary School No. 10 came second, while the teams from Primary Schools No. 2 and No. 6 took third place.
All participants in the competition received book prizes.
On May 31 this year, as part of the closing events of the “Days of Bolesławiec,” a reading competition for young people entitled “Let Us Protect Our Environment” was held. It was organized by the MBP Adult Lending Department. Seventeen participants entered. The competition consisted of two stages: written and oral. The winners, in order of placement, were:
1. Elżbieta Wierzbicka – Vocational School Complex, Bolesławiec, ul. Komuny Paryskiej,
2. Joanna Jakubczyc – First General Secondary School in Bolesławiec,
3. Artur Trzebiński – also the First General Secondary School
4. Radosław Siuda – Mechanical Technical School in Bolesławiec.
During the competition break, Ludwika Kowalska, author of the book “500 Chemical Puzzles,” gave a lecture on environmental protection. The lecture was accompanied by a promotional sale of the aforementioned book, with the author’s dedication. The Library funded valuable book prizes for the winners.
On June 8, the Municipal Public Library hosted a group of 30 librarians from the Lwówek Śl. area. The meeting was initiated by the local branch of the Polish Librarians’ Association. As part of the exchange of experiences, many topics concerning the library community were discussed, including its place in the developing reality, cooperation with local government, and the development and promotion of reading, particularly among children and young people.

From June 10 to 12, 1944, the National Conference “COMPUTERS IN LIBRARIES – POLAND ’94,” organized by the Warsaw Board of the Polish Librarians’ Association, was held in Chorzów. Two hundred and forty librarians from various academic communities participated in the conference. Wacława Skawińska, director of the Municipal Public Library in Bolesławiec, also participated in the conference.
