General tidying and renovation of the old town, together with the visible results, confirm that this was a good investment. One can see here the city authorities’ well-considered concept and the building expertise of engineer Józef Król, Mayor of the City.
When showing our guests from Siegburg or groups of German officers who have contacts with WKU around, one notices their approval of the efforts in this direction. It is worse when walking along the historic route around the city’s defensive walls known as the “Bolesławiec Planty.”
The section from Kościelna Street to Kutuzowa Street, with its preserved towers, does not make the best impression. An additional attraction of this section are the card players who have taken a liking to this place. They might add a specific local character to it were it not for the numerous groups of drinkers occupying the areas along the walls and the small square around the Kutuzov monument. The section from Kutuzowa Street to Zamkowy Square, along Kubika Street, has its defensive walls obscured by the unfortunately located Polmozbyt base. Finally, there is the section from Zamkowy Square to Prusa Street, where the defensive walls are obscured by numerous garages and unfortunately situated extensions. It is good that work has begun to tidy up part of the planty around the Bathing Facility. The future local government should continue the previous administration’s work toward further tidying the areas around the old town. The expenditure will not be of the same scale as the current renovation work, and even if it is, it will still be worthwhile to create a beautiful walking route for tourists visiting our city as well as for the residents themselves.
