Zakład Energetyki Cieplnej has secured a PLN 5 million low-interest loan from the Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Wrocław. The money will be used to connect two network systems (the so-called link). “At present, two independent heating systems operate in the city: the Central Heating Plant and the Municipal Heating Plant,” says Józef Król, president of the ZEC management board. The link will make it possible to close the obsolete Municipal Heating Plant on Kościuszki Street.
“Following its modernization in 2004–2005, the Central Heating Plant has sufficient capacity to heat the entire city,” the president of the management board notes. “This investment is necessary, and heat consumers will benefit from it most,” he adds. Thanks to the link, heat prices will not rise at a dizzying pace, despite increases in the prices of coal and electricity. The modernization will enable the company to save PLN 1,300,000 annually.
The investment will also improve the efficiency of energy supplies. “With the same amount of coal that could heat 64 apartments at the Municipal Heating Plant, the Central Heating Plant can heat 100 apartments,” Józef Król explains. Moreover, environmental pollution will decrease after the modernization. Annual sulfur dioxide emissions will fall by 12 tons, while carbon dioxide emissions will decrease by as much as 2,200 tons!
The link will also contribute to improving Bolesławiec’s appearance. The pipes installed in the 1970s around Kościuszki Street will disappear. The investment, which is scheduled for completion in December, is worth more than PLN 7 million.
