In the previous issue of "Głos", we provided brief information about the establishment of the MDK and listed the names of all the directors of this distinguished institution. We call it "distinguished" because the emdek was described as a "nursery" or "forge" of talent. This was indeed the case. Thousands of children and young people learned here to play, sing, dance, paint, draw, sculpt, take photographs and do many, many other useful things, including foreign languages.
The talents and abilities of young residents of Bolesławiec were honed by instructors – educators, whose list is very long. Many of them are still associated with the MDK, while some have retired or moved to other work. Some have already passed away. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary, we would like to recall the names of the people who developed young people's interests while also shaping their character. We will begin with the musicians, noting that the Music School started operating later than the MDK, and the PSM was established only in 1983. Earlier, the MDK fulfilled the role of music education, with the following people serving as teachers: Marian Broczek (wind instruments), Stanisław Kozioł, Ziemowit Dutkiewicz, Feliks Sacewicz, Włodzimierz Weselski and Alojzy Skóra (accordions), Franciszek Bachor (recorder), Zofia Michalska and Elżbieta Głuszko (guitars, mandolins), Edward Krawczewski (percussion).
Vocal or instrumental groups were led by: Bernard Cichorzewski, Albin Wilczura, Zofia Michalska, Janina Narbut, Grażyna Starzyńska, Marian Kostecki, Ryszard Dziedzic, Zdzisław Karpowicz, Maria Górecka (accompaniment).
Here are the names associated with other fields of artistic activity:
Dance: Wanda Patora, Maria Teresa Banaszek, Barbara Cecylia Patora, Anna Rutkowska, Anna Słabiak, Bernard Lewandowski, Wioletta Łukasiewicz, AnnaScholz. Visual arts: Krystyna Paluch, Paweł Śliwko, Wanda Matus, Michał Twerd, Jolanta Czarnecka, Agata Wolska, Maria Mazur (decoration), Wiesława Goryczko and Stanisława Wojda-Pydińska. Theater, spoken word: Elżbieta Skóra, Anna Rutkowska, Krystyna Boratyńska, Lucyna Lawrowska, Renata Dorosz, Ewa Zbroja, Marek Biegasiewicz. Photography: Kazimierz Patora, Jerzy Cembrowicz, Paweł Kijowski. Film: Kazimierz Patora, Stanisław Kwiatkowski, Jerzy Sikorski. Metalwork: Jan Narbut. Foreign languages were taught to children almost from the beginning of the MDK. The lecturers were: Kazimierz Pator, Bronisława Jaworowska, Wiesława Pędras, Maria Staniszewska, Tadeusz Grzesik, Eugenia Wolska and Renata Wieczorkiewicz.
Technical sections also operated (some still do): the Skilled Hands Club (Wanda Patora, Andrzej Łampika), the Electronics Workshop (Władysław Dawidziak), the Millinery Workshop (Janina Śladowska) and the Model-Making Workshop (Michał Kosiorowski and Jan Aljanowicz, who has worked there for over 15 years). For some time, there was also a Tourism and Regional Studies Section, led by Stanisław Domalewski. The MDK club offers activities and games of various kinds for the youngest children and others as well. These activities were led by: Barbara Cecylia Patora, Jana Trawniczek, Bronisława Ziobro, Anna Rutkowska, Barbara Mancewicz, Anna Słabiak and Renata Dorosz. Certainly, these are not all the names of those to whom the Youth Cultural Center and thousands of children owe so much. Instructors and educators were often helped by other people, such as Bolesława and Jan Poniedziałek, who had worked there for 22 years, other technical staff, as well as the children's parents. In the article, we did not write anything about the artistic groups that brought renown to the MDK, or about the children from the visual arts workshops who won awards almost every year in international competitions held literally all over the world.
It is impossible to describe everything at once. The rich and diverse activity of the Stanisław Wyspiański Youth Cultural Center has already been the subject of master's theses, and describing it more extensively would require the length of a book. In the anniversary year, there will be another opportunity to write more about the MDK, and Głos Bolesławca will gladly return to the subject.
