Forty years ago, specifically on 13 June 1954, the Scout House in Bolesławiec was opened; it was later renamed the Youth Cultural Centre.
The material concerning the forty-year history and current activities of the Youth Cultural Centre is so extensive that it cannot be published all at once. Starting with the current issue of “Głos”, we will try to provide Readers with information about the YCC in several “instalments”, beginning with a reminder of the founders’ names and the more important events recorded in the chronicles. The initiators of the Scout House were Edward Ragus and Wanda Patora, while the first head of the House was Ryszard Bardega. From 1957, Wanda Patora became its head for twenty years (!).
In 1964, the Scout House was renamed the Stanisław Wyspiański District Cultural Centre for Children and Young People. In 1977, Cecylia Patora became director of the YCC. Jerzy Sikorski served as director from 1978 to 1984. The next director of the YCC was Anna Rutkowska (1984–1991), and for the past several years this position has been held by Marian Kostecki.
The Youth Cultural Centre is known in the city as a “hatchery” or “forge” of talent. Until the establishment of the State Music School, that is, from 1982, the Youth Cultural Centre (and later also the Community Music School) played an important role in the musical education of children and young people. Here, children and young people gathered in ensembles and sections were taught to play the accordion, mandolin, guitar, flute, violin and other instruments. Singers were trained here, and rhythm classes were also held. Naturally, artistic, technical and other talents were being “polished” in parallel. The list of instructors and educators at the Youth Cultural Centre is a long one. We will publish it in the next issue of “Głos”, along with more extensive information about the YCC’s ensembles and sections.
