On 20 March, the BKS footballers begin the return round of the competition for the interwar-class championship with a match against Piławianka Piława. Preparations for the spring matches are taking place locally in Bolesławiec, as the Club currently cannot afford a training camp as it did in previous years. By 15 February, three friendly matches had been played: two draws, 2:2 with Górnik Złotoryja and 1:1 with Stal Chocianów, and one defeat, 1:3 against Piast Iłowa. On 13 February, at the sports hall of the Military Unit, BKS Club organized a football tournament with the participation of teams from Cement Raciborowice, Warta Bolesławiecka, Chrobry Nowogrodziec, and BKS seniors and juniors. The tournament was won by BKS II, which defeated Cement Raciborowice 4:1 in the final. Pea soup was served from the military kitchen to all tournament participants, and the author of these words also tasted it. Very tasty. At this point, on behalf of BKS Club, I would like to extend sincere thanks to the Commander of the Military Unit, Col. Chwojnicki, and Col. Jarmużek for making the sports hall and pitch available, as well as for their help in organizing sporting events on the grounds of the Military Unit. Such assistance, at a time when it is “difficult” for the Club to exist, is truly invaluable. Bravo, Army!
The attitude of Rudziński, the Director of the Complex of Mining Schools, is quite different; he led to the BKS athletes being expelled from the hall and from the storage room they had occupied since the Club’s establishment, in the hall on Bielska Street. The footballers’ equipment is currently located in a sheet-metal hut beside this hall. The hut has neither heating nor lighting. I will leave this without comment. Changes have taken place in the team’s coaching staff. Mgr Henryk Kusojć became coordinating coach in place of mgr M. Jednoróg. The first-team coach is Stanisław Zapiór, and the manager is Cezary Grabę. The first-team squad consists of the following footballers: A. Willas, J. Kownacki, J. Rutkowski, M. Rutkowski, D. Hałka, G. Ruciński, G. Biżecki, N. Stec, T. Fulczyński, M. Brom, P. Rosik, W. Pałka, A. Dębski, M. Maculewicz, player-coach St. Zapiór, as well as the new player M. Pieczarek from Racibórz, performing military service in Bolesławiec, and J. Czerkasiewicz.
K. Lechowski, P. Szczęsny and A. Poloczek have left the team; the latter was the best player of the autumn round, with 12 goals. In the current situation—ninth place in the standings after the autumn round—the footballers will have to fight to remain in this division. However, the team is made up of young players, and the future will certainly belong to them. Perhaps next season, with a favorable atmosphere for sport, they will manage to earn promotion to the third league. Schedule of the upcoming matches: 20 March BKS–Piławianka; 27 March Czarni Wałbrzych – BKS; 2 April BKS – Granica Bogatynia.
We invite all football enthusiasts to these matches. By attending, we are saving what remains of sport in Bolesławiec, and I believe that the footballers will repay us with good and fully committed play on the pitch.
