In the previous installment, BKS was promoted to the district league, known at that time as the third league. Now the team had to play against much more difficult opponents from Wrocław, Wałbrzych and Legnica. However, after initial difficulties, the team finished the season in fourth place, becoming the revelation of the competition. The strong performance of the football team from Bolesławiec made it an attractive sparring partner for stronger teams, even from the first and second leagues. During breaks between seasons, teams such as Wisła Kraków, Olimpia Poznań, Śląsk Wrocław, Odra Opole, Unia Tarnów and Błękitni Kielce came to Bolesławiec. As a curiosity, I will mention that in 1963, Górnik Zabrze, the multiple Polish football champion, visited Bolesławiec. BKS achieved a sensational victory, with Grzesik scoring the “golden goal.” The team consisted of: Kasperczyk, Skorupa Łachudziak, Klimczyk, Pilz, Sierakowski, Grzesik, Wójcik, Soroko, Zieliński, Gawryszewski and Skowroński. In mid-October 1960, at the club’s general meeting (the club then had 850 members), following a motion by a group of club members, BKS was transformed into a company club affiliated with Zakłady Górnicze “Konrad.” The club ceased to be a municipal club.
In 1961, the management of ZG “Konrad” initiated the reconstruction of the sports stadium on Spółdzielcza Street. Approximately 50% of the work was completed as community service, and the total cost amounted to 4 million złoty. The facility was built with the intention of handing it over for BKS’s use, but after the work was completed, it was assigned to the Polish Committee of Physical Culture and Tourism in Bolesławiec.
There were always reserve teams and a number of youth teams alongside the senior team. In 1961, the junior team won the Wrocław Voivodeship championship and competed for the Polish championship title in nationwide tournaments. The team’s captain, Józef Kuszyk, was awarded the bronze Medal of Merit by the Polish Football Association. Leon Fok, a longtime player for Bolesławiec football teams, was also awarded the silver PZPN badge. In addition to football, which was the club officials’ main focus, BKS also had teams and sections in other sports: boxing, weightlifting, table tennis, volleyball, athletics, chess and sports bridge.
