On 25 November 1993, a Disco Dance Competition was held in Kruszyn, with children and young people from various localities in our municipality taking part. Children from the following schools presented their dancing skills: SP Kruszyn, SP Ocice, SP Nowe Jaroszewice, SP Kraśnik Górny and SP Kraśnik Dolny. Unfortunately, the young people from Dąbrowa, who had also entered the competition, were unable to attend.
The dance presentations took place not on a stage, as is usually the case, but in a hall, in a specially designated ring.
The dancers had more space, while the judging panel, seated in the corners, had different reference points. The panel consisted of chairman Mirosław Olewicz and jury members Małgorzata Waszkiewicz and Edyta Bachur. The panel assessed each presentation twice. The first assessment concerned technical skills, and the second the aesthetic and spiritual impression of the dance.
The young people competed valiantly for the awarded places in two categories: solo and group. Solo presentations alternated with group performances. During the breaks, a rock band from Żeliszów, operating at the Municipal Culture and Sport Centre, entertained the artists and audience.
Barbara Bram from Ocice won first place in the solo category, Gabrysia Długosz from Kraśnik Dolny came second, and Kasia Szwed from Nowe Jaroszowice came third. In the group category, the girls from Ocice proved to be the best: Dorota Stec, Krystyna Kuchar and Marta Goldsztajn. Ocice also took home the prizes for second place from Kruszyn, won by Ewelina Matyjewicz and Anna Sabadasz. Third place was awarded equally to two groups. From Kruszyn: Celestyna Sabadasz, Sabina Krynicka and Agnieszka Mszał; and Marta Głuszko, Monika Woźny, Monika Roman and Anna Wyskup from Kraśnik Dolny. The audience prize went to Paulinka Karaban, who amused the audience with a dance to the song “Mydełko Fa”.
The competition was intense, and the panel faced a difficult task when assessing the presentations.
The organiser of the Disco Dance Competition was the Municipal Culture and Sport Centre in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn.
Dance is a very important part of a child’s life. It improves physical fitness, helps children relax and lifts their spirits. I hope that dance will never be forgotten or pushed aside as one of the less important activities in a child’s life.
