On 18 November 1993, the reporting and electoral meeting of the Municipal Branch of the DEMOCRATIC UNION in Bolesławiec was held. New branch authorities were elected as follows:
Chairman: Edmund Maliński; Deputy Chairman: Jan Hałubiec; Secretary: Teresa Czarnecka; Treasurer: Marek Kowal; Board Members: Józef Król and Bohdan Pieliński. A programme resolution was adopted, identifying preparation for the local government elections as the main task for the near future. The need to establish a broad electoral platform with social, political and economic entities operating in Bolesławiec was highlighted.
The Municipal Branch of the Democratic Union invites everyone interested in the problems and development of our city to cooperate.
We increasingly often speak of our weariness with politics and our disappointment; some even believe that politics is a dirty business.
I would like to offer Esteemed Readers the following reflection: "Politics is such a wonderful field where no defeat is final, where one can be politically reborn, where the ends of the world do not come, although we have been threatened with them more than once. The ends of the world came when politics fell silent." We are speaking of democratic politics—we mean only this kind, because this is the only kind we want to practise.
What is democratic politics? It is an opportunity to practise freedom, because it builds programmes "for tomorrow." It is a politics that asks the questions: "what are we reaching for, with whom do we want to do it, whom would we rather avoid, and what and whom do we refer to?"
The members of the Democratic Union in Bolesławiec want to participate in activities for our common benefit, inviting everyone who shares this understanding of participation in public life.
