On September 8, at the Municipal Cemetery in Bolesławiec, a large group of educators and young people, particularly from the Zespół Szkół Handlowych i Usługowych, bid farewell to their long-serving teacher and principal, Adam Pietrkiewicz.
Born on October 13, 1933, in Ciepielów, after graduating from the Teacher Training Secondary School in 1952, he began his teaching career in Warta Bolesławiecka.
In the meantime, he completed Teacher Training College and university studies at the Faculty of Education of the University of Wrocław. From 1962 to 1964, he was deputy head of School No. 4, and from 1964 to 1969 he worked in the Department of Education and Culture in Bolesławiec as Deputy Inspector.
In 1969, he became principal of the Basic Vocational School (today Zespół Szkół Handlowych) and headed the institution for 17 years. He possessed a special gift for winning people over, was active in the Polish Teachers’ Union, and served as a scout instructor at numerous summer camps. He was a dependable man, especially sensitive to students’ concerns. During his tenure, many graduates of various specializations left the school, mostly to meet the needs of Bolesławiec’s crafts sector.
He raised two sons and was blessed with granddaughters.
At the Association of Vocational School Principals at the Education Office, we all called him Adaś. This diminutive suited the always smiling, witty and kind man perfectly, and that is how he will remain in our memory.
