Jan Dudek, a decoration specialist at the “Bolesławiec” Ceramic Works, is one of the better-known guitarists from Bolesławiec. He can move between various musical styles. He was a member of a jazz-rock band and a group inspired by the work of Guns'n'Roses. He has played both blues and sea shanties. What is more, he sometimes even performs at weddings. As he said in an interview with the IstotneInformacje.pl portal, together with Marcin Budziński they were the first to combine disco polo with hard American rock.
He gained stage experience with The Complice, a German group that played covers of rock giants such as Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. “I spent almost two years with them. I remember that time fondly, although it was a terrible life on the road across Europe,” the guitarist says. “Every week we travelled and played concerts.” Once, the group performed at a Harley riders’ gathering for an audience of 40,000.
Jan Dudek is a self-taught guitarist. “I achieved everything on my own. I did not have any teachers,” says the Bolesławiec resident. During performances, he enters a trance. On stage, he is a volcano of energy. He definitely does not belong to the group of musicians who play their parts motionless. He is a showman. “I love it. The stage is my life,” he admits.
As a guitarist, he greatly appreciates the work of virtuosos of the instrument, such as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. But he listens to various kinds of music. “I really like Polish music,” Jan Dudek admits. “I love Paweł Kukiz and Bajm,” he adds. These fascinations will be reflected on the debut album by the duo Jan Dudek and Marcin Budziński. The album will probably be released at the end of the year in Germany, where Budziński—the group’s vocalist and keyboardist—has lived for years.
It is not yet known under what name the record will be released. It is known, however, that the work will be titled “AK3”. Why? “The basis of most of the songs is three chords,” the guitarist explains. That does not mean the music will be austere. “The first album will be for everyone,” Jan Dudek announces. Both fans of harder music and lovers of ballads will find something for themselves. The album will be promoted by “Mój świat”, an environmentally themed song for which a music video is to be made.
Music and Sport
Besides playing the guitar, Jan Dudek loves playing... volleyball. He is a member of three Bolesławiec teams and a team made up of employees of the Nowy Ląd mine. “It is a beautiful sport,” he says. “I really like the very friendly atmosphere on the court—regardless of whether one wins or loses,” he adds.
Debut
“AK3” will be released in Germany. Jan Dudek assures readers, however, that the album will also be available for purchase in Poland. The record is being created primarily with Polish fans in mind. All the lyrics were written in the duo members’ native language. And although the album has not yet been released, Dudek is already thinking about his next material, on which he intends to make his debut as a vocalist.
