To increase the effectiveness of the fight against crime, alongside the POLICE CHRONICLE there will be information, warnings and advice. The Police are doing much to prevent crime, but with the support and cooperation of the readers of "Głos Bolesławca"—the residents of the town, municipality and individual districts—this work will be far more effective.
An indispensable factor in these efforts will be the Police’s promotion of specific behaviours: sobriety, prudence and taking precautions. Daily police practice shows that approximately 30% of crimes committed are so-called crimes of opportunity, a sad consequence of a lack of imagination, absent-mindedness, recklessness, the desire to impress others, and so on.
In many European countries, as part of well-developed crime prevention programmes, various forms of self-defence and mutual neighbourhood assistance have been introduced into everyday practice with the participation of local authorities and the Police. Therefore, the Police propose that everyone, regardless of whether they live in the town, municipality or smallest village, join the common fight against crime and manifestations of social pathology as far as possible. Initiatives and activities of this kind by residents have already taken place in other provinces and have led to the creation of community self-defence groups that organise guarded car parks, patrol particularly dangerous areas or conduct preventive activities among their fellow residents.
Our series will present issues concerning home security, car security, safety on buses and trains, as well as protecting property and effective security systems in general.
