Around 130 entries were submitted to the prestigious L’Oréal Color Trophy hairdressing competition. The theme of this year’s edition was “Stars of film, television and the stage.” To take part in the competition, Bolesławiec resident Krzysztof Uzdowski first had to assemble a team comprising a model, photographer, stylist and makeup artist.
The competition jury primarily considered the hairstyle, but the quality of the photograph and the model’s appearance were also important. “The photograph was supposed to be suitable for the cover of Twój Styl,” the talented hairdresser told IstotneInformacje.pl. The model’s hairstyle was styled in the fashion of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The Bolesławiec resident’s team received the maximum number of points and qualified for the semifinals. The hairdressers’ entries from across Poland were sent to Milan, where they were assessed by an international jury made up of world-renowned specialists. The judges selected eight finalists – Krzysztof Uzdowski was among them.
Poland’s best hairdressers presented their skills on June 10 at the Congress Hall in Warsaw. Their task was to recreate the hairstyle from the competition photograph. “It was great to find myself among such people. It is a major success,” the Bolesławiec resident noted. All the more so because stars of the Polish hairdressing world took part in the competition. “I wanted to see whether, as a hairdresser, I could compete with people who have been practising this profession for more than 20 years,” said Krzysztof Uzdowski. “And I proved that I could,” he added matter-of-factly.
The Bolesławiec resident likes working alone. In his work as a hairdresser, he especially values contact with clients. “Women trust men more than women hairdressers; they let them do more,” Uzdowski says. – “Sometimes I can really go wild.” It also happens that women want to resemble a famous actress or singer. Last season, a hairstyle à la Rihanna was extremely popular.
Sometimes clients bring in a photograph from a catalogue. “The hair does not always allow you to create such a hairstyle,” the talented hairdresser explains. “But I always try to make it look similar. Or identical,” he adds.
Krzysztof Uzdowski learned his craft at the Hairdressing Academy in Katowice. But after graduating, he did not rest on his laurels. He completed a series of courses and training programmes. Now – thanks to the nationwide competition – he has gained prestige. “It gives me a sense of worth. All the learning was not in vain,” the Bolesławiec resident emphasises. He adds that he is considering entering another competition. This time, however, he wants to win it.
