As everyone knows, the main problem facing a large part of modern youth is drug addiction. It is not a phenomenon affecting any one particular class or social group—it is a threat to society as a whole, and especially to the younger generation. The cause of addictive drug use is the crisis of family life and of moral and social values. This is usually what leads young people to seek companionship, but they do not always find suitable company, which offers them visions of the world in rainbow colors.
They fall into addiction, and this is the beginning of that terrible dependence. Sometimes the cause of drug addiction is simple human curiosity, but that is probably a trivial reason.
Each of us must try to make psychologically distressed young people—or simply those who are curious—understand that drugs must not be tried, because doing so has very serious consequences. Let us remember to extend a helping hand to those who need it—let us not allow them to seek pleasure in drugs.
Let us also remember that drug addiction can lead to AIDS, the plague of the 20th century. It is summer, a period of complete relaxation. Let us remember this threat. The best remedy for drug addiction is friendship and love.
