Mgr Eng. TERESA SZCZUCKA talks about the activities of Głogowski Bank Gospodarczy S.A.
As examples and experience show, private enterprise cannot develop successfully without private banks in economically well-developed countries. The establishment of a private bank in our region should therefore be welcomed with appreciation. This bank is Głogowski Bank Gospodarczy S.A., which began its operations in August 1991. The bank is owned by enterprises and individuals. The largest number of shares is held by Bank Zachodni, which provides a certain guarantee for individuals and companies keeping their capital in Głogowski Bank. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board is Jan Bogucki, director of Bank Zachodni in Głogów, while the Management Board is headed by Bolesławiec resident Mgr Czesław Krzyżanowski. The bank currently operates as a structure of three independent branches: in Głogów, Przemków and Bolesławiec (4/6 Sierpnia 80 Street).
We talk about the Bolesławiec Branch with Mgr Eng. TERESA SZCZUCKA, the branch’s chief accountant.
- The branch was established in March 1992 and, despite its short existence, has already acquired a considerable number of clients and gained significant standing. For now, the branch is located in temporary premises at Sierpnia 80 Street and Mickiewicza Street. In mid-1993, the branch will move to the currently renovated building on Sądowa Street, which will house an operations hall, a credit department and administration. It is worth adding that a building on Sądowa Street that was no ornament to the city will be “brought back to life,” while for a long time there were no takers willing to renovate this ruin.
- Whom will the Głogowski Bank Gospodarczy Branch serve, and what types of activity does it conduct?
- We would like the bank to serve all residents of our city and the surrounding area. Głogowski Bank Gospodarczy provides services related to the accounts of business entities, legal persons and individuals, handles all kinds of deposits and payments, and also offers favorable terms for fixed-term deposits. It also grants various types of loans.
The bank finances every type of business activity, provided that it is economically justified and the loan has sound foundations. The interest rate on loans for business activity is between 51 and 60 percent. The bank offers efficient service. If a venture is profitable and the borrower has a complete set of documents and is known to the bank, the loan can be arranged almost “on the spot.”
One of the services most popular with the public is consumer credit. A borrower can obtain a loan of up to six times their net salary if their monthly income exceeds 2 million zlotys, or up to three times their salary with income of between 1.5 and 2 million zlotys. Obtaining the loan requires a bill-of-exchange guarantee from two guarantors, but securities or valuable items, such as a car or jewelry, may also be pledged. The maximum loan term is currently 12 months.
A convenient form of saving at Głogowski Bank is fixed-term bonds. They can be purchased in denominations of 1 million, 5 million and 10 million zlotys. There is no need to specify in advance when they will be redeemed. Presenting a fixed-term bond for redemption after four, eight, sixteen or thirty-two months from the date of sale results in payment of the bond’s nominal value and interest.
- Can an individual client open a cheque and settlement account book at Głogowski Bank Gospodarczy and carry out such simple transactions as paying energy or housing bills?
- Of course. In this respect, we do not differ from other banks; moreover, for clients’ convenience, we are the only institution in the city that also provides service every Saturday.
- Thank you for the interview.
