The Regional Board of the Lower Silesian Socio-Cultural Association and the Institute of Political Science of the University of Wrocław organized the Second Silesian Regional Meeting in Wrocław on October 23–25.
The meeting’s central theme was the slogan “Silesia, our common regional homeland.” The meeting also continued the celebrations of the 1,000th anniversary of Silesia’s incorporation into Poland. Six papers were presented, and the extensive discussion during the three-day session concluded with the adoption of two documents: “To the Municipal and Communal Governments in Silesia” and the “Appeal” of the participants of the Second Silesian Regional Meeting.
Bolesławiec was represented by a delegation from the Bolesławiec Enthusiasts’ Association: MA Zygmunt Brusiło, MA Zdzisław Mirecki and Adam Kowalski.
The delegation from our town gave two presentations. MA Zygmunt Brusiło spoke about initiatives for the future and Polish-German reconciliation, using cooperation between Bolesławiec and the cities of Siegburg and Pirna as an example. He also raised the issue of the need to increase historical knowledge about Silesia among young people and adult residents of Silesia.
Mr Adam Kowalski presented Ukrainians’ attitude toward Poles, using as an example the visit of members of the Friends of the Drohobych Region Association to Drohobych in September of this year.
Both presentations were met with interest and a favorable reception from the meeting participants.
