We encouraged Readers to send in literary samples, and here we have the “first brave one.” Ms Jolanta Dusza-Szapiel sent two rhymed works, one of which we are publishing without any editorial changes.
Anyone who loves Bolesławiec must admit that—unfortunately—what is happening at the pond is fit for the newspaper.
This pond, perhaps not the largest but dear to our hearts, was the most beautiful little corner. Today, its appearance frightens people.
There is barely any water in it, but the bottom is covered with algae and weeds (and probably some disease too?)—instead of being a source of charm, it is a disgrace to the city.
I am an ordinary teacher and for a year (or perhaps two) I have been unable to instill in my students the belief that things will not get worse.
For although the school windows are silent, they show the municipal authorities as terribly inept. And these windows are not joking.
So is it no longer worth keeping people’s well-being (or at least the students’ morale) in mind and ending the pond’s “ownerlessness”?
Best regards
JOLANTA SZAPIEL
