In the first issue, my article entitled “Native substitute coins” was published, but presumably for technical reasons it was shortened and the author’s name was omitted. The photographs included were taken by Mr. ZYGMUNT WESOŁOWSKI. The exceptionally original ceramic coins from Bolesławiec can be seen at the Museum of Ceramics, as well as among collectors affiliated with the Polish Numismatic Society Provincial Branch based in Bolesławiec. The beginnings of the organized numismatic movement in Bolesławiec date back to 1983, when a Club subordinate to the PTAiN Branch in Zielona Góra was established. On October 1, 1987, the PTAiN Main Board in Warsaw established a Provincial Branch based in Bolesławiec. The Society’s membership fluctuates and, together with the Jelenia Góra Club, numbers around 60 people. Recently, due to the increase in coin prices and membership fees, a certain decline in interest in this passion has been recorded.
The current Branch Board, consisting of: JAN HANISZEWISKI – president, JERZY HOŁODNIAK – vice-president, WŁADYSŁAW BOJDYS – treasurer, JAN KOSECKI – secretary, and HENRYK PUŃSKI – member, is not giving up, however, and continues to work actively. They often visit schools and encourage young people to take up this worthwhile hobby. They do not neglect exhibition activities. PTN members meet every Sunday at 11 a.m. at the headquarters of the Association of Combatants of the Republic of Poland on Sądowa Street. It is an opportunity to exchange coins and experiences, as well as to meet new enthusiasts of old money.
