The fact that retirement does not have to mean the end of creativity could be seen during the fourth Midsummer Night celebrations, organized by teachers and supporters of the Polish Teachers’ Union at the forest nursery in Osieczów. Why there? “It is a beautiful place,” Wiesława Olczyk Wiesława Olczyk from the Polish Teachers’ Union, one of the event’s organizers, told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal. “There is probably no equally beautiful place in the Bolesławiec area.”
The Midsummer picnic is a permanent fixture in the calendar of the women from the Polish Teachers’ Union. It is an opportunity not only to have fun, but also to cultivate old Polish traditions. The teachers spent three months preparing for this year’s Kupala Night celebrations. New and original ideas emerged at every organizational meeting.
The Midsummer celebration began with a welcome involving bread and salt. There was group singing, a competition for the most beautiful wreath, and wreaths being floated on the water. Traditional Polish dances, such as the kujawiak and polonaise, were also part of the event.
About 40 people took part in the event. “This gathering is a moment of rest, joy and mutual kindness,” Wiesława Olczyk Wiesława Olczyk emphasized in a conversation with us.
