The Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec, located at 13 Mic-kiewicza Street, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its post-war activity in June this year.
This jubilee requires some explanation, because the history of our museum is not straightforward. The building was erected in 1909 on the site where the city walls meet a 15th-century tower, for the purposes of a municipal museum. (Thus, in 2009 we will celebrate its centenary.) During the war, the building survived, but unfortunately the collections of the pre-war museum did not. In 1953, the then Wrocław Śląskie Museum organised the first exhibitions from its collections in this building. The building, however, required renovation, and it was reopened to visitors in 1967, already as the Museum of Ceramics, specialising in Bolesławiec stoneware and ceramics.
To mark the 25th anniversary, an exhibition presenting the museum’s achievements is being prepared, along with several publications.
