Meeting of Circle No. 1 of the Association of Former Professional Soldiers at the 18th Rocket Regiment
With the participation of the Commander of the 18th Rocket Regiment, Col. Stanisław Chwojnicki, PhD, the provincial president of the Association of Former Professional Soldiers, Capt. (ret.) Edward Kowalczyk of Jelenia Góra, and several dozen former officers, warrant officers and professional non-commissioned officers of the 18th OT Rocket Brigade, the 18th Rocket Regiment, the 62nd Special Company and the 2nd Helicopter Flight, a reporting and electoral meeting was held for one of the three circles operating in our city. The report summarizing more than three years of work was presented by Senior Staff Warrant Officer Michał Rospond. Much of it was devoted to the forms and results of the circle’s work and the activities of the social and welfare committee. He expressed the opinion that in the near future it would be necessary above all to improve the flow of information affecting the social and welfare situation of circle members and to cooperate more effectively with veterans’ and social organizations with a similar profile of activity.
The meeting granted a vote of discharge to the outgoing Board, headed by Col. (ret.) Tadeusz Gołębiewski. Decorations were presented which had been awarded by the Main Board of the Association of Former Professional Soldiers and the commander of the 18th Rocket Regiment on the occasion of the organization’s 15th anniversary. Among others, the commemorative medal was awarded to September soldier Senior Sergeant Florian Pitala; the honorary badge to Lt. Col. (res.) Ignacy Kwik and Maj. (res.) Marian Łokietek; the Association’s gold badge to Lt. Col. (res.) Mieczysław Parczewski and Maj. Edward Olkiewicz; and a special diploma to Col. (ret.) Czesław Bartoch and Senior Sergeant (ret.) Julian Jermakowicz.
A new circle board was also elected, with Lt. Col. (res.), PhD, Ignacy Kwik as president

Young artists
On 19 October this year, Mr Janusz Jakubowski, owner of the Dana Fine Ceramics workshop in Bolesławiec, organized an outdoor ceramics workshop for children from class II e at Primary School No. II. During the three-hour session, the children learned, among other things, how to make objects from clay by hand. Thanks to Mr Janusz’s kindness, the children had the opportunity to create their own ceramic “masterpieces”, which, after drying and firing, were painted during class. At the end of the visit, the children received a box of ceramic figurines and promises of a meeting at spring workshops. It should be emphasized that the workshop was organized free of charge. (BB)

Reflections on the celebrations of Independence Day
The organizers have got the holiday out of the way... the pipes have been put away... Life goes on... yet this year’s events connected with the holiday left sediment and regret in our hearts. I mean the ceremonial concert organized on 8 November 1996 (why not 10 November?) by BOK – the Army was not the organizer of the event. Once again, a similar celebration lacked veterans with color guards and the pioneers of the Bolesławiec region—people who also grew up in the Second Polish Republic.
In Bolesławiec we have the Association of War Invalids, the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, and the Association of Combatants and Former Political Prisoners—why were their representatives absent from the event? Were they invited and did they not want to come?
Whose fault is it—perhaps the boards of these organizations, or perhaps the event organizers? What can be done to avoid such a blunder in the future and ensure that similar incidents do not occur?
Will we learn who was at fault? Mr President of Bolesławiec, we ask for an explanation. We are waiting

A new circle has been formed...
A new “Bolesławiec Region Circle of the Association of Combatants and Former Political Prisoners” has been established in Bolesławiec.
Until now, there had been two circles existing side by side and cooperating perfectly: the Municipal Circle (more than 800 members) and the Municipal Commune Circle (more than 300 people), which conducted its own activities while jointly using one premises. The reporting and electoral meeting of the Municipal Commune Circle adopted a resolution deciding to organizationally merge both circles (Municipal and Municipal Commune). This creates a need to establish a new, dynamic organization (average age: 75!) whose scope will cover the entire Bolesławiec region.
We applaud this initiative; joint activities will certainly streamline the work and bring tangible benefits to members.
We wish the new Circle even better results in its work with veterans, a field highly regarded by the provincial authorities. It is the largest veterans’ organization in Bolesławiec; as a reminder, Bolesławiec also has the ZCH “Wizów” Workplace Circle, the Association of War and Military Invalids, and the World Association of Home Army Soldiers.
