The celebration began with a thanksgiving Mass and the blessing of the harvest. Then a harvest festival procession led by a military band and the harvest stewards, Halina Latawiec and Rudolf Skiba, made its way through the town.
At the municipal stadium, the National Anthem was performed, and after welcoming the guests, the harvest festival hosts Edward Szczerbień – Mayor of the Municipality and Town, and Wiesław Sawicki – Chairman of the Council, tossed several sheaves of grain into the threshing machine, thereby opening the harvest festival celebrations. Decorations were then presented, the wreaths were displayed, and everyone was invited to take part in the celebration—and there was plenty to participate in.
The “butter-churning,” “sheaf-tying” and “bread-baking” competitions attracted many people. It was possible to try delicious country bread with lard and cucumber—and it was free!!! It was very popular. Doughnuts, corn, kvass and other delicacies prepared by the Association of Catholic Families could be purchased; the association decided to donate the money collected to help families in need.
An additional attraction—the country bread and rolls baked in a bread oven set up on the playing field—was hugely popular, and Mrs Katarzyna Jakubowicz could not keep up with the baking, such was the demand.
The only school stand was presented by the Agricultural School Complex named after the Combatants of the Lwówek Land from Rakowice Wielkie. Under the tents, visitors could see a computer, diploma projects and the school television station.
The “Bolusie” group from Bolesławiec, Mr and Mrs Kutowie, entertained the guests with their performances during the harvest festival, while Mr Olgierd Poniżnik directed the entire event wonderfully. The weather could have been better, but everything worked out anyway.
We invite you to the next harvest festival already today...
