On September 7, 1996, at 4 p.m., a match is scheduled to be played between BKS veterans and the “Orły Górskiego” team. Thanks to Mr. Wojtek Zimmerman, confirmation was obtained that this once-great team would come to Bolesławiec. Among the confirmed names are such football personalities as: Jan Tomaszewski, Adam Nawalka, Henryk Miloszewicz, Leszek Ćmikiewicz, Jan Domarski, Kazimierz Kmiecik, Marek Kusto, Stanisław Oślizlo and Robert Gadocha. All outstanding figures. Naturally, the team is led by Mr. Kazimierz Górski himself. In the 1970s, they were the pride of all of Poland’s sporting community. The whole world knew these names. It will be a great attraction to see them in action once again.
It would seem that all we need to do is be patient and wait for September. That would be the case if our city had a stadium capable of receiving such distinguished guests and accommodating everyone who wants to see them. If only...
The match is to be played at the stadium on Spółdzielcza Street. What is its current condition? The pitch is new and looks impressive from a distance. However, closer inspection raises many concerns. This is probably the least serious problem. More serious are the benches, changing rooms, bathrooms and toilets. Everything requires a major renovation. We must do this!!
I appeal here to everyone who cares about this match taking place: private individuals and institutions, businesses and wholesalers, and the city authorities – let us mobilize our forces and show, as a sporting community, that we are still capable of achieving something. It is truly worthwhile.
The match will take place, the Orły will leave, and we will be left with a stadium that will serve our athletes. Otherwise, the event – the match – will be held in another city in our voivodeship (Jelenia Góra, Lwówek, perhaps Lubań), while our stadium will continue to be an eyesore for several more years.
The organizer of the match, BKS Bolesławiec, asks everyone interested to get in touch and submit offers of assistance. We ask and invite you. There is little time left.
Will They Play in Bolesławiec?
