Since November 1994, when renovations began on the pitch at Spółdzielcza Street, a new problem arose for the city’s BKS club. Where should matches be played, and where should the football teams train? Thanks to MOSiR, the youth teams of younger and older juniors were placed on the pitches at Rajska and Spacerowa streets. The seniors and juniors competing in the inter-district league must have pitches approved for play at this level, with changing rooms, bathrooms, rooms for referees, and so on. A major problem. Where to play? And here, once again, the Polish Army came to the aid of the BKS footballers. A reliable, proven friend of municipal sport. For almost two years, the athletes had made themselves at home at military facilities. It can safely be said that thanks to the attitude of the Commands of Military Units 4355 and 1259, BKS still exists. Given the city authorities’ limited interest in this problem, the army’s protective wings allowed the club to survive to this day.
It is Col. Stanisław Chwojnicki, PhD, Lt. Col. Henryk Harkot, and Maj. Janusz Liszewski who give us permission to enter the military grounds and use the sports hall.
It is Lt. Col. Bogdan Kośny, PhD, Maj. Michał Wałcza, and Maj. Tadeusz Mleczko who allow us to use the football pitch.
It is Senior Warrant Officer Jan Chojnacki who allows us to use the sound equipment during sporting events.
Staff Sergeant Dariusz Kaczorowski organizes support for referees and visiting teams. Lt. Jan Kędziora helps organize matches. We can also count on the assistance of the head of WKU, Col. Władysław Jędryczka. It is thanks to many other military personnel, not mentioned here, that the athletes carry on and dream of sporting success. It is also worth adding that the army charges no fees for the use of its sports facilities.
Well, is an ordinary “thank you” enough? Let us remember this.
