For the fifth time, the best mathematicians from fifth- and sixth-grade classes met to demonstrate their mastery in competing with one another in this particularly difficult field of knowledge. The Regional Mathematics Competition, attended by nearly 40 pupils from a dozen or so primary schools in Bolesławiec and the surrounding area, was held on Friday, April 19, 1996, at Primary School No. 1. The mathematical aspect of the competition was prepared by Ms Zofia Diakowska, MA, a methodological adviser at the Regional Methodological Centre in Jelenia Góra, while the school’s headmaster, Jerzy Janowicz, MA, oversaw the organisational side of the event.
The results confirmed that Primary School No. 4’s good run continues. First, third and fourth places went to pupils from that very school. They were Anna Żabska (the winner), Grzegorz Słociński and Elżbieta Maczkowiak. Last year’s winner, Piotr Marszałek from the school in Węgliniec, came second. The next places again went to pupils from Bolesławiec: fifth place to Jakub Pjanka from “the sixth”, and sixth place to three pupils: Paweł Wiatr from “the first”, Szymon Trzebuniak from “the eighth” and Piotr Olech from “the sixth”.
Congratulations to the winners, with the hope that these first victories are a sign of many successes that await them in the future.
