On 7 March, an exhibition entitled “Haus der Geschichte” opened in Bonn. The exhibition was held under the patronage of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Prof. Roman Herzog, who was also present at its opening. The exhibition will also be available to view in Warsaw from 18 July 1996. It is under the patronage of Polish President Kwaśniewski.
The opening ceremony was conducted by the director of this institution, Prof. Dr Herman Schaefer. Afterwards, a speech was delivered to the 1,300 invited guests by the former Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs and historian, Prof. Dr Władysław Bartoszewski. The German company “Lufthansa” provided the musical accompaniment. The viewing of more than 800 exhibits then began. Also displayed was the Peace Bell from Frankfurt (Oder), which had once been funded by the German CDU party from the GDR. Also on display was the “Charter of Expellees from the Homeland, which had once been funded by the German CDU party from the GDR. An example of such a publication could have been the book published in 1993 about the Silesian painter “Teodor Bletterbauer, born in Bolesławiec, as well as the publication issued in 1995 about Bolesławiec ceramics. Apparently, due to the multitude of duties, I overlooked something, so I will try to visit the exhibition once again. I am providing the exhibition’s opening hours through 5 May 1996, along with the address and directions. Daily except Mondays, from 9:00 to 19:00 at “Haus der Geschichte”, Adenaueralle 259, 53113 Bonn. The metro journey from the main railway station takes a few minutes; admission is free.
