The second GB plebiscite for Bolesławiec’s most popular athlete and coach in 1995 has been decided. Readers decided that the titles went to athlete Bartosz Gruman and coach Józef Popek. Here are the results of this year’s plebiscite: Athlete:
Bartosz Gruman – athletics – 146 points
Jolanta Walczak – badminton – 136 points
Sławomir Graff – chess – 124 points
Elżbieta Struś – athletics – 80 points
Małgorzata Walczak – tennis
– 74 points. Next in order: Elżbieta Gawron, Paweł Wodas, Andrzej Milewski, Jolanta Wieczorek, Marek Dąbrowski.
Coach:
Józef Popek – badminton – 92 points
Zbigniew Kaźmierski – chess – 81 points
Ryszard Posacki – athletics – 76 points. Further order: Waldemar Pfeifer, Adrian Bernacki, Jacek Radwański, Józef Kawałko, Mirosław Szapiel, Marek Tyczyński, Stanisław Merdas.
Bartosz Gruman’s victory, as a representative of the “queen of sports,” is probably not a great surprise. His sporting achievements, promotion to the Polish national team and the Olympic squad confirm that the title went to a worthy recipient.
Mr Józef Popek, who for many years has promoted badminton and taught ever-new generations of players, decisively outpaced representatives of other, more popular sports. Congratulating the winners, I wish them many sporting successes and great satisfaction from the results they achieve.
