Last year, the volleyball players from the Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych won, while the students from I LO came third. This year, the players coached by mgr. Jerzy Witek "gave way" to the secondary-school students trained by mgr. Krzysztof Sokoliński. Bolesławiec is enjoying another successful run in the provincial championship for upper-secondary schools in volleyball!
First came the triumph in the group tournament in Zgorzelec, followed by the quarter-final /home and away matches/ against I LO Lubań, a dramatic semi-final against the team from the Zespół Szkół Zawodowych in Kamienna Góra /they lost 1:3 at home and won 3:0 away!/ and one highly successful final match against the Zespół Szkół Zawodowych from Lubań. A "mere" 3:2 in the welcoming gymnasium of the bolesławiecki Zespół Szkół Handlowych i Usługowych secured victory among the elite field of twelve teams representing the upper-secondary schools of our province! This victory enabled them to return to first place after a one-year break. The team won the provincial sports festival diploma, impressive trophy and gold medals in the following lineup: Marcin Sobczyszyn – team captain, Dominik Chodyra, Marcin Ignatowicz, Andrzej Kopiec, Krzysztof Krajewski, Jacek Mroczek, Daniel Opala, Rafał Rutkowski, Janusz Szkirpan, Marcin Świerzewski and Piotr Tajak.
According to the unanimous opinion of the volleyball players and mgr. Krzysztof Sokoliński, the school's physical education teacher, the best player was Marcin Sobczyszyn. Andrzej Kopiec, Dominik Chodyra and Jacek Mroczek were not far behind. They consider the final the most difficult match. They scored points most easily during the tournament in Zgorzelec. Everyone regrets that the tournament ends at this stage. The central competitions simply are not organized. Among the secondary-school players, Sobczyszyn, Kopiec and Mroczek have won the most titles /three medals each: two gold and one bronze/. All the others added this year's gold medal to the bronze they won last year.
What would they like to achieve? To repeat their success next year. Seven are third-year students and three are second-year students. In May, Marcin Sobczyszyn hopes to pass his final examinations and become a student at the Wrocław Academy of Physical Education. They would like to train in their own gym, but ... unfortunately, the school does not have one that meets the requirements for playing volleyball. The school's management's latest efforts are encouraging. Many teachers are optimistic and wholly devoted to school sports. mgr. Krzysztof Sokoliński is one of them.
