“Let our cry go out into the world: never again hatred, never again genocide, never again war!” – these words, spoken by soldiers at the conclusion of the Roll Call of the Fallen in front of Primary School No. 9, were the motto of the ceremony during which it was named after the Home Army.
On the school grounds, the relevant document was presented to the school’s headmaster, M.A. Eugeniusz Kowalski, by the city president, engineer Józef Król. A commemorative plaque was unveiled; its inscription was “chiselled” by employees of the Bolesławiec Stoneworking Plant, Zenon Zima and Mieczysław Smusz. They carried out the work as a community service, stating that “the plaque is a symbol of patriotism for them, for which they cannot accept any payment.” The parents funded the flag. There were words of admiration, best wishes, and tears of joy in the eyes of many Home Army soldiers. Three Bolesławiec priests concelebrated Holy Mass, while the chaplain of the Zgorzelec garrison, Rev. Capt. Jan Mycek, delivered a “fiery homily.” Later, Maj. (ret.) Zygmunt Szumowski, vice-president of the Main Board of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, cut the symbolic ribbon of the school’s Home Army Traditions Room. The students also presented a beautiful, moving poetic and musical performance.
