Dr Eugeniusz Rutkowski died suddenly and unexpectedly on 22 May 1997. A physician and pediatrician, he had been head of the pediatric ward at the hospital in Bolesławiec for many years—over 25.
He was a doctor who knew how to look at a sick child, and that child was the most important thing to him. He helped the children's mothers, comforted them and did his best to restore the health of his young patients.
He trained many pediatricians and was a model of a true doctor who cared for his patients. He did not make things difficult for young doctors beginning their practical training; instead, he created an atmosphere conducive to consolidating their medical knowledge.
The farewell service at the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary brought together three generations of Bolesławiec residents—Dr Rutkowski's peers and friends, his former patients, and today their children and grandchildren. Until the end of his days, he helped people, especially children, despite already being retired.
Dr Eugeniusz Rutkowski's sudden passing will leave an irreplaceable void, but he will remain forever in the memory of his friends and the residents of Bolesławiec. We extend our condolences to his wife and family.
We bid you farewell, Gienek.
